This is so cheap that it's virtually free as far as we're concerned, since the £1 is just a token payment. But there's no obligation to do so, you can just cancel your Direct Debit after the first payment of £1 is taken and enjoy the 4 (virtually free, in our eyes) issues.
• £300 Free Cash for Switching your Bank Account
Santander will pay you a whopping £100 if you open a Current Account online and move your banking using their dedicated Switching Service. Even better, if you are an existing mortgage account customer and switch your current account, you'll get £200. This goes up to £300 if you can also deposit at least £10,000 in Santander savings. You also get a 0% EAR (variable) overdraft with no Daily Arranged Overdraft Fees for 12 months. After 12 months the overdraft will cost 50p per day, capped at 10 days in each monthly statement period. This assumes an Arranged Overdraft credit limit of £1,200, but the actual amount may differ.
